Velvet worms naturally live in all tropical areas in the southern hemisphere. South American ones are called Peripatidae and Australian and African ones are called Peripatopsidae. The scientific name of the overall species is Onychophora. Adults have about 40 legs and eat isopods, termites, ants, and slugs. Onychophoras can squeeze through very narrow places because they have no exoskeleton. Instead, their skin produces a thin and flexible cuticle that is extremely convoluted. The "worm" is actually more closely related to spiders.
